A message from Debra West:

I have always been passionate about the Australian bush and the birds and animals within it.

In this series “King of the Bush” my aim was to capture some of the personalities of the Laughing Kookaburras in my paintings.

They are portrayed in my representational style and one of my favourite mediums, soft pastels.

The Laughing Kookaburra, renowned for its striking iridescent blue feathers and unmistakable raucous call captures our hearts. Ringing throughout the bush, the sound is both jovial and mischievous, reflecting their personalities.

Kookaburras are formidable hunters, with their robust bodies and big powerful beaks, often seen on a branch or fence post scanning the ground for their prey of small reptiles, insects and small mammals.
